Student Feedback

  • I just wanted to say thank you for a great class! Yours was my first class with RMCAD/ first time using an online format and I'm really happy that it was. I really appreciated all of the video tutorials and lectures. Auditory processing is not one of my strengths, but being able to quickly reference, rewind, and rewatch the lectures, feedback and tutorials was incredibly helpful; particularly with the Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials. I feel a lot more confident in both programs and your class really took the edge off of the daunting task of diving into those programs as a newcomer. Anywho, thank you again for all of your feedback and instruction, it was a real pleasure taking your class, and I hope it won't be the last.

  • Professor, I want to thank you personally. You have been one of the best teachers here at RMCAD since I've started. Each of your assignments has pushed me further while being enjoyable. Each project pushed my creative capabilities, and I wish I had you as a teacher for longer than 8 weeks. You have communicated well, and each time you have provided me with feedback, I have felt like I've learned something new or figured out what I needed to do next. You're a great professor, and I wish you well. If you do find the time, I have one final question for you. As a future animator and filmmaker, I have been trying to ask each of my professors what their favorite movies are and why. Because even though I'm going into the 2D animated field, I want to learn what everyone loves, what makes someone love this movie? So if you have the time, what are your favorite movies or series, and why? What do you think a student of film could learn from these films or shows? Thank you again, and keep an eye out for me in the future. You might be watching one of my movies one day!

  • You did an excellent job giving feedback. I especially liked it when I would get full scores on a piece but you would still show me a physical example of different directions we could have taken it. You used your words well in feedbacks and made me feel like I mattered in a large classroom of students. Thank you for your time. You have made a large impact on my life as an artist going forward :)

  • Your work is super cool! I love the two characters you created - They are inspiring, their details and features…I love how you used complementary colors and analogous colors. Your class has been super fun - You are a really engaging teacher. I like that you have conversations about our work and that you share your work and experiences learning as well. I thought it was always super helpful when you would edit my pieces and I could see the differences in the composition. I think that is a good technique :-) I have a lot to learn and I feel like by seeing the changes to what I had been working on leads me in a forward direction of improvement. Thank you for all your well thought out feedback and energy that you bring!

  • The best thing about this instructor is his determination to be a part of our learning experience. I haven't really experienced that much with my other teachers. He not only provided an actual video at the start of each week laying out the assignment, exercises and any problems we might run into, but he also created a personal response video to every single assignment, actually interacting with the assignment as he spoke about it to give real, concrete examples of where we could improve.

  • He stepped in when he saw a majority of the students struggling with something he would post a video of how to fix what we are doing wrong. I think that means the world.

He communicated very clearly and thoroughly, and he always responded to my questions very quickly.

What I liked was how he reached out to me if he noticed i was having trouble

  • Mr. Prentice offered many examples and helpful videos to show us exactly what was expected, he responded to questions in a timely manner. I appreciated the video feedback he gave us of our projects. But most of all I appreciated how he treated us like mutuals and gave us respect as long as we respected him back, that behavior from a teacher makes me a student feel so much more comfortable and confident turning in work regardless of how amazing it may or may not be. And for that, I thank him heavily.

  • His feedback was very helpful, and he was very good at deconstructing just exactly what we could correct and helped us through the issue. Also, he always replied to any questions almost immediately.

Jeff was very encouraging in every step of the way. His experience in art reflects on his teaching strategies and it helped me gained confidence with my work.

Communication was the best I could have asked for. Suggestions given from posted works allowed much greater inspiration.

  • This was the best and most fun class I have ever taken, with big thanks to our instructor. Giving good feedback and showing me what I can do better or what might be better to do has helped me tremendously, and I hope to have more instructors like him in the future. I can confidently say that Illustrator and Photoshop will both play a significant role in my future. This is because I am currently in the process of switching my major to graphic design. I realized how much I loved it during this class, and I am looking forward to furthering my education in this subject.

  • I personally want to thank you, you have made this one of the best classes I’ve ever had and I hope to have more instructors like you in the future. Because of this class, I realized how much I love this type of design over interior design and have decided to switch majors.

Really appreciate all the feedback and patience from this instructor. Jeff was clear about the assignments and he gave many helpful links and examples. He was also easy to talk to and understand.

  • Jeff was amazing! Even though I began to fall behind a bit in this class I still felt supported in what I was able to get done and challenged to do my best. He was also available often for any questions or feedback and the office hours were incredibly helpful.

Even though this class frustrated me to no end, I learned a lot of lessons from you. Thank you sir, hope to take another class of yours in the future.

  • I could not be happier with Jeff Prentice as the instructor for this course. The video reviews of assignments was beyond helpful. He was very quick to respond and even sent 20 minute videos to go over drafts. The weekly emails were very informative and I would not have passed this class with out them!

The instructor of this class is the true strength. Jeff is one of the best instructors I have had in over 6 years of online classes!

  • In college, I struggled with severe untreated ADHD. Many misunderstood my condition, misconstruing it as laziness or a lack of productivity. But the truth was, I could hyper-focus on things I found genuinely interesting.

One of those things was web and graphic design. I taught myself HTML coding to customize my MySpace page and discussed industry trends on AOL chats.

When I took a related course at SDSU, taught by Jeff Prentice I admittedly didn't attend regularly. I found it hard to concentrate on the basics I already knew. But instead of writing me off, Jeff saw my potential. "You're really creative," he said. "But if you don't attend, I can't grade you." He suggested a solution: attend class and work independently on a project of my interest.

I gratefully accepted his offer. Not only did I earn an A in that class, but I also built a website that would become my first business, Red Rope Reviews. This platform was like Yelp for nightclubs, bars, and restaurants, complete with video reviews and reservation features - quite a novelty in 2004.

Jeff's faith in me gave me the confidence to build that company and pass his class. His understanding and flexibility turned what could have been a roadblock into a launchpad.

  • His knowledge and feedback - He was very helpful with constructive feedback and tutorials he had for some of the assignments which made the class easier for me.

The feedback has been excellent, great demonstrations from the professor.Prof. Prentice's feed back videos were excellent.

Great feedback! He also provided really helpful tutorials along with video lessons.

  • I also wanted to say thank you for the critique videos you provide throughout the course. I doubt I would have done so well in this class without those, I kind of wish everyone did that. Thank you so much for all you do!

Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I very much prefer the video feedbacks and lectures.

Thanks so being such a great teacher! I learned a ton in this course and it really was a great first class for me at RMCAD. I'm excited to learn more.

Also - agreed 100% about Mr. Prentice's involvement. It made me feel like I was in an IN person class rather than an online class!

  • Thank you so much for doing these videos every week. They are incredibly helpful! I just wanted to take a sec to say how much I've appreciated it this term-- I first started classes at RMCAD back in 2015 and I struggled because, as a very visual learner (I'm sure like most other students here), I couldn't follow. I was taking a drawing class and the only direction I was given was out of a book and sometimes I feel like I need to SEE what someone else does so that I can visualize how to do it myself. I am so grateful for all of the visual aid I'm seeing now that I'm back this year!

  • What I benefited from the most was Mr. Prentice’s involvement with the class. As a student that relies heavily on visual and written learning, I cannot express how beneficial it was to receive videos about upcoming assignments and video feedback about my work. Sometimes, online classes can be hard to navigate, but Jeff made it SO EASY! I wish other instructors were this involved.

  • Thank you SO much for all your help! I'm even more excited about my future as an art educator now. I'm excited to explore these programs more and I hope to have you as a professor again one day!

The savior of this course was Professor Prentice. His positive attitude and very helpful instruction videos for each exercise lessened my time and anxiety.
